Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

On the Sunday after the election, we may still not know what the results of that election will be.  We also don’t know how long this pandemic will last, and our church community will be largely virtual.  But what we do know is, win or lose, those efforts we’ve been fighting for will still need us to continue in the fight.  We know we’ll still be in a time of pandemic, the earth will still be experiencing climate change, people in prisons will still be there.  So at this turning point, what’s next – for our country, for our faith, and for FPC?

6:00PM
VIDEO

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

I'll be hosting a short vespers service on Zoom from 6-6:45. This will be a more formally-structured event than the noon event, but still a time for people to share how they're feeling.  This one we'll hold even if results are both certain and happy and people are joyous -- if so, it'll be a time to celebrate together.  We’ll be done by 6:45 to allow people to attend the UU Journey class at 7pm.

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum
Our traditional service takes a new format, as we take the time to acknowledge and mourn the loved ones who have passed this year.  We invite members to send photographs (stay tuned for details on this) to be part of our virtual altar of rememberance, and to place rocks in the Courtyard Garden memorial location.

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum
In religious circles, we often talk about having “a calling.”  For some this is metaphorical, for some it is literal.  This service will talk about deep listening and hearing our call.

Ingrid Holcomb, lay leader; homily by Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray,UUA President

From our work for marriage equality, women’s suffrage, the abolition of slavery, for civil and voting rights, to advocating for a path to citizenship for immigrants, to taking on the ‘New Jim Crow’ and white supremacy today, Unitarian Universalists have a legacy to carry onward.  On this Sunday we’ll be sharing a homily from UUA President Susan Frederick Gray in a special service weaving together our usual FPC traditions and words from many prophetic UUs from the UUA and beyond.  Our Denominational Affairs Chair, Ingrid Holcomb will host the service.

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum
In this service we'll look at how the idea of suffering is treated in various world religions, the myth in art culture from Greek myths to modern music that you have to suffer to be an artist, and break down the idea of "necessary suffering" and how we can promote healing instead. FPC is pleased to welcome the members and friends of the Community Unitarian Universalists in Brighton, Michigan who are joining with us in worship on this Sunday!
