5 PM in the Sanctuary

The service will feature music about Mary. We will connect to both the well known biblical story of Mary as the mother of Jesus, but also hear folk tales about Mary's life from the German tradition, a devotional song from Cuba, and an invocation written after the 2003 tsunami asking for Mary's help in overcoming damage caused by storms and floods, which is a relevant concern for so many today. The service will feature some holiday carols and prayers from Rev. Tracey Robinson-Harris, and will include performances by Sanghee Kim (pianist/organist), Lindsay Conrad (soprano), Caitlin Felsman (mezzo-soprano), and a professional string quartet. The concert is free and open to the public, and we see it as our musical holiday gift to the community. The prelude will begin about 10 minutes before 5:00p. Come early and get your seat. THIS Sunday, December 3, at 5 pm in the Sanctuary.

Childcare will be available in lower Fellowship Hall.

The Rev. Marta Valentín will be preaching.  So much has been happening for all of us, all over this country and the world that it’s often hard to remember what it is that keeps us from spinning off the edge. Now with the holidays upon us, it is a good time to take a breath, and get rooted in who we are.

The Rev. Marta Valentín currently ministers with the good people at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Medford, MA. Prior to that she served churches in Littleton, MA and Arlington, VA.  Her first called ministry was to New Orleans in 2005. A poet, her prayers and poems appear in many Skinner House Books, including her own meditation manual, A Long Time Blooming, signifying the first person of color sole author to do so. She is a founding member of the regional anti-racism/anti-oppression/multicultural group GRACE: Growing Racial and Cultural Equity, comprised of colleagues and congregational lay leaders.
