This is the first of our Summer Services organized by the Worship Committee. “We welcome all who seek a vibrant spiritual home, where together we lovingly challenge and transform ourselves.” Do we? Guest Ken Wagner joins FPC's Racial Justice Task Force to explore the spiritual underpinnings of what we stand for as UUs.

This Sunday we celebrate Flower Communion, a service created by Norbert Capek (1870-1942), who founded the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. He introduced this special service to that church on June 4, 1923. For some time Capek had felt the need for some symbolic ritual that would bind people more closely together. So he turned to the native beauty of their countryside for elements of a communion which would be genuine to them.
Bring a flower (or more) to add to our bouquet. Each of us will take home a flower brought by another.

This sermon was an item in the Worship Committee Basket for the FPC Auction this past Spring. The basket was purchased by Lynette Sinclair. Lynette asked for a reflection on resilience—how we find the will to go on, the ability to bounce back, the courage to move ahead… and to do so through the lens of dance. Rev. Tracey will lead the service.
Sunday, May 20th, 2018
Hope and Love are two of the tools we use in the universe-bending work of justice. Rev. Cindy will share how she finds hope in times of struggle, and love in the face of hate, and talk about the work that is in front of us as a faith in these challenging times. Rev. Dr. Cynthia Landrum is our our candidate for settled minister.
A congregational meeting will follow the service with a vote to decide if we call Rev. Dr. Landrum to be our next settled minister. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend and vote.

Rev. Dr. Cynthia Landrum is our our candidate for settled minister. Rev. Cindy's background in literature and love of the written word led her on her path to becoming a Unitarian Universalist minister and continue to inspire her and challenge her to think about theology, ethics, and social justice today. This sermon will explore some of those literary sources that she draws from in her "loose-leaf Bible." We will also recognize Mother's Day and the role of parents of all genders.

In scrolling through clergy resources online recently, I came across a graphic with words something like this: grace is that moment when love meets imperfection. There is more to it than that, I'm sure. And that's where this Sunday's reflections will start. Rev. Tracey Robinson-Harris will lead the service.
