9:30 Service Outside (weather permitting) or 11:15 Service Video/Phone
Join us online after the second service for a special extended discussion time about the proposed 8th principle.

We’ve had seven principles in Unitarian Universalism since the 1980s, but now a proposal is circulating to add an eight principle about anti-racism. Rev. Cindy will share where this is coming from, what congregations are doing about it, and address some frequently asked questions about the proposal.

9:30 Service Outside or 11:15 Service on Zoom/Phone

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

Our church year begins with a service of both sorrow and joy. While it’s good to be together again, we’re also not coming back together just yet in the way we had hoped for in our sanctuary. While we start a new year, in the midst of the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, full of exciting programs and opportunities, we’re also in the midst of pandemic and remembering the anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Come join us for this service full of peace like a river, love like an ocean, tears like raindrops, and joy like a fountain!

Outdoors and via Zoom

Academics of colonialism point out that when Europeans came to North America, the Indigenous people had “commerce, economics, permanency, stewardship, inheritances, artistry, drama, ceremony, mourning, health care, politics, justice, penance, peacekeeping, and still do.” As UUs, it is necessary for us to acknowledge the stolen land we stand on every time we come together. This is in keeping with many of our principles. Join Aimee Ledwell as she details those connections and discusses how to respectfully address the injustice of our colonial history.

In the words of Emerita Anne Treadwell, Minister of Kitchener, Ontario UU Church, “There’s no challenge or moral stretch involved in acknowledging that our favourite people are worthwhile, but there’s a big challenge in recognizing the worth of people who we may find anything from mildly unattractive to morally repulsive.” Ingrid Holcomb invites you to revisit the 1st UU Principle through words, music, and meditation, and to either recommit or revise your relationship to it.
