Service times: 9 AM by Reservation in the Sanctuary, 11 AM by Reservation or Virtual/Phone

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

This time of year can be hard for many people -- both for people who are struggling with loss or sadness in a time of seasonal joy, and for people for whom Christmas or Hanukkah are troubling theologically.  This service will be a service for all those who feel at odds with the season right now.

For this service in the time of Hanukkah, we invite our Jewish members to bring their Hanukkah menorahs for the altar and light them during our chalice lighting time, if they wish.

While we are asking for advance registrations most Sundays to order to make sure we can keep social distancing (https://fpcosna.breezechms.com/form/26dae834), this Sunday you're welcome to attend without registration.

fRev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum

How do we hold the more difficult parts of our history, as individuals, as a religious community, as a society?  Across America we’ve been hearing debates about “critical race theory” and trying to keep education systems from examining and dealing with the more difficult parts of American history.  This service will look at ways we can hold the difficult parts of our past without ignoring them.

That’s right, in 20 years of ministry, Rev. Cindy has never preached a whole sermon on fat bias and fat acceptance. Now it’s time.

Masks required for outside worship service

This service will help us explore what the world looks like when we see ourselves as the ones who provide for others, rather than those who should be recipients of benefits from others, the world, or even the divine.

Reverend Julie-Ann Silberman-Bunn is a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, LRY and YRUU leader who has served as a Parish Minister, Religious Educator, Hospice Chaplain and now a Hospital Chaplain at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, Ma. and quarter time Assistant Minister at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Greater Springfield. An author of chapters in Everyday Spiritual Practice and Living a Call Julie-Ann reflects frequently on what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist and evolving her understanding of faith and spiritual practices. Julie-Ann and her husband Ken live in their forever home, a cabin in the woods of Western Massachusetts with their rescued Maine Coon cat Kattia.

Cultivating Relationship

The Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum
“There are three possible ways of identifying with a religious community: by behaving, by believing, or by belonging…” wrote Rabbi Neil Gillman, summarizing Mordecai Kaplan, the founder of Reconstructionist Judaism. As I’ll be talking about in our “UU Journey” classes this month, Unitarian Universalists are defined not by creed, but by covenant. But while covenant defines our faith, belonging may be what defines us as individual UUs. What does it meant to be a people defined by belonging?
