Guest Speaker and Member Shana Dumont Garr –  Posthumanism is a way of thinking that moves beyond humanism, which was a philosophy that blossomed during the Renaissance and positioned humans - rather than the whims of a divinity - at the center of the moral world. The humanist worldview still holds sway today over many of our political and social institutions, and posthumanist philosophy is emerging to reflect a new perspective on human beings' relationship to our changing world - a post-industrial, capitalist society where fossil fuels and other natural resources power our movement and technology, and most scientists and environmentalists believe we’re in the midst of a sixth extinction. Posthumanism asks how humans might, while still considering ourselves with love and care, shift priorities to recognize ourselves not at the center of the universe, but as part of a complex web among countless other beings.

Our buildings are now mask-optional. We have designated a mask-required section of our sanctuary. It is marked off and in the back right corner. Please consult with an usher if assistance is needed.
