The Rev. Douglas Wilson, guest minister

Come and learn about the UU camp experience from the expert!  As a young minister, The Rev. Dough Wilson served as the Assistant Director of UU Rowe Junior High Camp, where he was deeply moved by the impact these three weeks had on the campers.   Soon after Rowe Camp became his home. In 1974, he started the Rowe conference center which operates retreats and workshops during the fall and spring and turns back to Rowe Camp in the summer.  He retired in 2012. This morning he will share his many experiences running a UU camp and conference center and explain why they are so important to our movement.

According to Doug, "Summer camps are green houses where young people learn, very fast, what UU values and principles are by putting them into action. If one of our young people were to go to youth group for two hours a week for 48 weeks, s/he would get gold stars for dedication but that time would only equal four days at Rowe Camp, where junior and senior high camps last three weeks. There is no better place for a young person to learn what Unitarian Universalism means."
